Lost Property!!! Lost Money!!! It Could Be Yours
02/02/2012
So, I guess this is the time of the year when you fill out your income taxes. This is the time when everybody waits on their w-2 tax form. We all know what that means. It’s time to pay-off those debts from last year. Or maybe you want to use that money on something else. Maybe you want to move out somewhere else or you want to buy a car.
I tell you what though. What if I told you that you might have some extra money waiting for you to claim it? I didn’t know about this either, until I went to do my income taxes. As I entered the office, the tax preparer asked me. Do you know if the State owes you money? I replied with “sorry I didn’t hear what you said” I guess the question sounded too good to be what I thought I’ve heard. Then he asked me the same question one more time. Do you know if the State owes you some money? I said, I don’t know. I was curious about the question and I asked him. Why do you ask me that question? He said, the State is holding some unclaimed money that may be yours or somebody else’s money. He told me I could have checked that information from home. But, since I didn’t know about it, he did the favor for me. To my surprise my name was on the list when he checked. Here is the link to that page, if you want to check it out for yourself.
Click here to visit the website "NAUPA" Click on the State you are looking for that unclaimed funds. Once you click you will be directed to another page. Here you will have to search by using your name or the company name.
The first thing you have to do once you’re there is to type in your name correctly as required. Then, you click on the search button. If you get a result after your search, make sure you are that person on the list. This is because there might be more people with the same name as yours. Check that your name and address are correct and that the information belongs to you. Check for any previously address you have lived before. Again you have to be sure that you are that person shown as a result of your search.
How to claim that money or lost property that belongs to you? There are two ways you can do that. First of all, you can claim it online. They will ask you some questions to verify your identity and accuracy of your information. The other method is by mail. Print the page where your name appears as the owner of the unclaimed money. Make sure you notarize it, otherwise it won’t be validated. Make a copy of any photo ID you have and include a proof of address. Put them inside an envelope and send it to the address shown on the paper.
I don't know how long it takes to get your money back. I will update this post when I receive the money that I'm claiming. Many of you inside the territories of the US may have money waiting for you. So, go and check that out and find out if you elegible to receive some kind of money you may have lost in the past.
Your unclaimed fund can be from a few dollars to a thousand or even more. What do you have to lose?

HI Greg, I've tried this before and searched for some unclaimed money from my state...hmmm, got nothing. Then I tried entering in my fiance's name and Lo and behold...he had over $200 from 2 different sources! We already filed the claim and are still waiting for that check...
I've gone to the unclaimed funds website a few times...and although I never found any $$ for myself (Damn!) I have found some for several friends and family and called them to tell them about it. They were all excited! Good hub..up++
Good info, it really reduces the mental stress to a great extent.
I first heard about this maybe ten years ago. I think just about all states now have a means for checking and claiming funds of this nature. Good, informational hub.
I filed my claim in July 2011 it took 4 months before I received acknowledgement letter. Another 3 months to receive documents from NYS Unclaimed that I needed to have notarized.Which I did. That was January 2012. I was told due to the high volume of claims they will respond to me at the end of June 2012. That will make it 11 months or close to a year. I am still waiting. Thanks for the Hub. Has anyone actually receive a check? I will post any new developments as they become available.
